The new Sony 70-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM Vario Sonnar lens is the latest addition to Sonys G-series line of premium lenses that offers a 5.7x zoom capability. The lens is meticulously designed to deliver extremely sharp descriptive performance across its wide focal length range, which makes it suited for sports, action and wildlife photography.
Constructed of 18 elements in 12 groups, the lens includes two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass lens elements for higher contrast, sharper details, and exceptional center-to-edge resolution with no chromatic aberrations. The use of a circular aperture with nine diaphragm blades allows for natural, aesthetically-pleasing de-focusing effects.
The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 1.5m and maximum magnification of 0.27x, truly one of the best in its class. To achieve a fast and silent auto focus, the lens uses the SSM system, which offers the speed and rotational precision often required for telephoto shooting. In addition, the Sony 70-400mm f/4.5-5.6 G SSM Vario Sonnar has an internal focusing system for faster auto focusing.
Other features of the lens include a focus-mode switch and three focus-hold buttons. This improves the operability of the lens. When attached to selected Sony Alpha DSLR body, the AF hold buttons can be customized to activate the intelligent preview function.
