With the VR technology on (automatically activated when you pan), you can see a more stabilized view through the viewfinder giving you a more accurate sense of where your target shot is. If you put your camera on a tripod there is a new mode that detects it and compensates with the VR motor to enhance and fix blur caused often when the shutter stops.
