Celestron built their 8x42 TrailSeeker ED Binoculars to address the particular demands of hunters, birders, and outdoor enthusiasts. They deliver bright high-contrast images with accurate true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing from long distances. To achieve this optical performance, these binoculars feature anti-reflection fully multicoated extra-low dispersion (ED) glass with dielectric and phase-correcting coatings on the BAK4 prisms. A wide apparent angle of view not only presents an immersive observational experience to complement the impressive performance, it also allows you to take in sweeping vistas without having to move your head very much—making it ideal for everyone from stalking hunters, to sports fans watching a match on a large playing field.
Designed to stand up to a lifetime of outdoor use, their chassis is made of a lightweight and durable magnesium alloy that is also corrosion resistant to make it ideal for boaters. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. Celestron includes tethered front and rear lens caps to add an additional layer of protection in the field, with the ability to quickly react to glassing opportunities without fear of losing the caps. Also included is a harness system that keeps the TrailSeeker binoculars close to your chest, so they won't hang and sway dangerously when you move over rough or rocky terrain. This redistributes their weight off your neck to your shoulders, making carrying it all day much more comfortable.
Optical Performance
- Moderate 8x power magnifies the view while preserving a wide exit pupil and long eye relief to make viewing easier and more comfortable
- 42mm objective lenses gather the light needed to ensure views remain bright and clear even in challenging light conditions
- Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations to produce views with true color rendition without halos, diffraction, or distortion across the entire field of view
- BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
- Dielectric prism coatings boost internal surface reflectivity to greater than 99% for maximum light transmission through the prism with minimal loss and diffraction and improved contrast and clarity
- Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
- Anti-reflection fully multi-coated lenses maximize light transmission for bright and clear images with accurate color rendition
- Wide 65° apparent angle of view helps to minimize the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics
- Expansive 426-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
- Closed-bridge configuration offers a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
- Large slip-resistant center focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves
- ±3 right-eye diopter adjustment enables users to compensate for optical prescription for sharper views
- Wide 56-74mm interpupillary adjustment range allows easy use by wide variety of people
- Twist-up click-stop eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear, removable and replaceable
- Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
- Long 17.2mm eye relief improves viewing comfort and reduces eyestrain during long glassing sessions
- Wide 5.25mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open and fully dilate in low light
