On a full frame camera this lens gives you a wide-angle look which has for decades been used to add drama to photos and videos, and has always been a very popular for establishing shots. On the video side, this lens really shines with a dedicated manual Iris ring, and a new linear focus motor called a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that is virtually silent. The VCM works in tandem with a Nano USM on the floating focus unit for incredibly fast autofocus. And finally, focus breathing is barely noticeable on this incredibly versatile lens.

Its optical design includes two UD lenses and one aspherical lens as well as Air Sphere Coating (ASC), and Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to reduce ghosting, and Fluorine coating on the front and rear lens surfaces to help mitigate smudges.
