With an eyepiece set at a comfortable 45° angle and broad magnification range, Celestron Lab's CM400 Compound Cordless Monocular Microscope is ideally suited for students and hobbyists alike. Its three-position turret holds the 4x, 10x, and 40x objectives and the instrument comes with a 10x wide-field eyepiece that produces magnifications from 40x up to 400x. The 3.5 x 3.5" stage has metal slide/specimen clips and a 6-position rotating disc diaphragm. Dual LEDs provide upper incidental and lower transmitted illumination with separate dials to control their variable intensity. It is powered by either three included AA batteries for use in the field or the AC power adapter that comes with a set of four outlet plug adapters for both domestic and international use.
Use and Handling
- Eyepieces are set at a 45° angle to place user's head in a comfortable viewing position
- Head can rotate a full 360° to make sharing in a lab or around a table easier and more efficient
- Color-coded objectives provide fast identification of the selected magnification
Optical Performance
- 10x wide field eyepiece maximizes light throughput for bright and clear views
- Three magnification choices provide a wide range for a variety of applications: 40x, 100x, 400x
- 4x, 10x, & 40x achromatic objectives
- Achromatic objectives correct spherical and chromatic aberration, so the color fidelity of the specimen will be accurate and the field of view will appear flat with the only perceptible curvature at the edges
Stage and Illumination
- Single speed coarse and fine rack-and-pinion focusing mechanism, 0.31" (8mm) of travel per rotation
- Dual LED illumination system provides lower (transmitted) illumination and upper (incidental) illumination, making it ideal for solid, semi-transparent, opaque, and transparent specimens
- Each illuminator has its own rheostat dimmer dial
- Square 3.5 x 3.5" stage with slide/specimen holders
- Rotating disc diaphragm has six aperture sizes to easily control the amount of light transmitted up to the specimen
- Set of 10 prepared slides lets users start learning microscopy right out of the box
Power
- Runs on three (3) included AA batteries for use in the field
- The use of LED illumination, rather than traditional halogen or incandescent, extends the battery life for more runtime
- Included 100-240 VAC power plug
- A, C, G, and I plug adapters for use in the US, Japan, Europe, UK, Australia, New Zealand, China, Argentina
